Nothing to be Sorry For

about

For the great Gary Louris, guitar player and singer for The Jayhawks. There's a scene in the Wilco doc "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" where Gary and (I think) Dave Pirner are backstage at a Wilco show and they go to nab a slice of pizza. Tweedy, kidding, tells them to drop them; that's his pizza. Again, dude was messing with them. But the look of embarrassment and smallness on Louris' face was real. I practically leaped out of my seat. "What the fuck are you doing?! You're Gary Fucking Louris! Take the pizza! Take whatever you want! They're lucky to have you there and to breathe your air!" Etc. One thing I should say about my lyrics is that GL most definitely is famous, though maybe not compared to Jeff Tweedy. Be that as it may, the guy's a legend. Any time he wants to grab some pizza he should damn well feel free to do so.

lyrics

Don't apologize for not being famous
Walk tall into the backstage room
And take whatever you want
Cause you've got nothing to be sorry for
You've got nothing to be sorry for

Let em talk about the new breed
They'll come to you eventually
Cause that's the way that it goes
And you've got nothing to be sorry for
You've got nothing to be sorry for

But I've seen you hang your head
Like a kid in the corner that knows he's caught
But what you've done is going to outlive you
You're already everything they're not

You can't separate it from the pictures
Of driving too fast with the windows down
They're lucky to have you around
And you've got nothing to be sorry for
You've got nothing to be sorry for

But I've seen you hang your head
Like a kid in the corner that knows he's caught
But what you've done is going to outlive you
You're already everything they're not
